Apple promises fix for iOS 7 crash bug

Have you ever found yourself flipping through home screens when your iPhone suddenly reboots without warning? You’re not alone. Mashable reports that Apple has acknowledged a bug in iOS 7 that causes this issue and will be releasing a fix in a future software update.

“We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash,” Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller told Mashable.

Reports of the problem appeared shortly after iOS 7 was first released. I use an iPhone 5s, and have seen the reboot happen about four or five times since I got the phone in September. Essentially, the screen of the device goes black without warning, then an Apple logo appears for a few seconds before the home screen turns back on (some users are getting a white screen when this happens, which might be tied to the color of the phone). It isn’t a full reboot — the process only takes about half the amount of time as it does to restart your phone manually — but it’s inconvenient nonetheless.

Interestingly, I haven’t seen this problem reported nearly as much for the iPad or iPod touch running iOS 7. Either way, here’s hoping we see the fix in iOS 7.1, which is currently in its fourth beta with developers.
